Present Position
President – Duree Barton Professional Corporation, Certified Public Accountants. Responsibilities include the administration of the firm’s certified public accounting practice and client service with an emphasis on dispute resolution analysis, evaluation and testimony, business valuation, and public utility regulatory consulting.
Professional Experience
Forensic Accounting – Dispute Resolution Analysis, Evaluation and Testimony:
Consulting services to attorneys and clients including accounting, tax and general economic analysis. Expert testimony presented in commercial, personal injury and wrongful death, domestic relations litigation and bankruptcy proceedings. Engagement principal to litigation support engagements on behalf of numerous plaintiffs and defendants. Deposition and/or trial testimony in more than 100 cases. Subject matter has included lost profits, class action damages, accounting and auditing, patent/trademark/trade secrets, fraud, business valuation, complex financial modeling, and a variety of other business issues.
Business Valuations:
Financial feasibility and valuations of closely held businesses for tax and other purposes, including the use of business valuation concepts and procedures in the quantification of litigation damages.
Utility Rate Investigations:
Established standards for evaluation of test periods. Managed investigations of rate base and operations of telephone, electric, gas and water utilities. Evaluated class cost of service studies and tariff design; prepared and presented testimony as an expert witness in several states and evaluated newly implemented rate structures to assure that granted increases were properly implemented.
Financial Reporting - Accounting and Auditing Professional Standards:
Evaluation of financial reporting and disclosures in conjunction with securities, lending, merger and acquisition, failed audit claims, and compliance with SEC and PCAOB requirements.
Large Databases and Statistical Analysis:
Evaluation of data integrity, processing summaries and extracts, and statistical analysis, for purposes of financial audits, medical claims processing evaluation, and class actions.
General Accounting:
Auditing, taxation, consulting and general accounting services in numerous industries, including retail, government, health care, commercial credit, transportation, oil and gas production and operations, manufacturing, construction and mortgage banking.
